Rajasthan Assembly Election Results 2023
All eyes are on Rajasthan as the state polled on November 23 and results will be announced by Dec 3, 2023. The election will be a true test of might for the Congress which not only has to take on a formidable BJP but has also been wresting with infighting.
The Rajasthan elections of 2018 were a significant political event in India. These elections witnessed a fierce competition between two major political parties - Congress and BJP.
In the elections, the Congress emerged victorious by winning 99 seats in the 200-member Rajasthan Assembly. Along with its ally the Rashtriya Lok Dal which won one seat, they staked claim to form the government. The BJP, which was the ruling party, managed to win only 73 seats in the tough electoral battle.
Following the triumph in the elections, the Congress appointed Ashok Gehlot as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. His leadership and strategic vision were thought to be key reasons for the party's victory in the state going against the incumbent government. Also factors like the party's promise of loan waivers for farmers, the creation of jobs and the anti-incumbency factor against the.
The results of the Rajasthan elections had a significant impact on Indian politics. It signalled a strengthening opposition against the BJP and set the tone for the 2019 General Elections in India.
